Mozilla Thunderbird
If you have just installed Mozilla Thunderbird, it will automatically bring you to the account setup screen. Otherwise, you can create an account by clicking on Tools, then Account Settings.

At the mail account setup screen
Enter your name, email address, and password, then click Continue.

Note: At this point, Thunderbird will try to automatically set up your email account. It usually gets the automatic settings wrong, so just click Manual Configuration. Now you should see the actual account settings, which should be entered as shown  above.

Your username is your FULL EMAIL ADDRESS.

After confirming your settings, click Re-test and Create Account.

Sometimes, Thunderbird will present a warning letting you know you are not using encrypted connections. If you are prompted with a security warning, click I understand the risks, then Create Account.
